KHULNA, Sept 1, 2026 (BSS) - Khulna City Corporation (KCC) today launched a mosquito larva eradication drive across the city as part of its efforts to prevent the spread of dengue.

KCC Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju inaugurated the programme as the chief guest this morning at Tutpara graveyard intersection in the city.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Manju said the dengue outbreak has emerged as a major public health challenge in the metropolitan city, and the KCC is making all-out efforts to tackle the situation.

Although spraying insecticides can help control mosquitoes, it cannot completely eradicate them, he said, stressing the need to prevent the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes.

“People must ensure that water does not remain stagnant for more than three days anywhere inside their homes, on rooftops, balconies or in surrounding areas,” he said.

The KCC administrator called for greater public awareness and active participation of city residents in the fight against dengue.

The drive began simultaneously in all 31 wards today and will continue throughout the month.

He also directed all field-level workers engaged in the programme to work tirelessly to make the campaign successful.

KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed presided over the inaugural ceremony.

KCC Chief Engineer Mashiuzzaman Khan, Secretary Md Reza Rashid, Chief Revenue Officer Rahima Sultana Bushra, Chief Waste Management Officer Md Anisur Rahman, Market Officer Sheikh Shafiqul Hasan Didar, former councillor Md Gias Uddin Boni, social workers Yusuf Harun Majnu and Md Ishaq Talukdar, among others, attended the programme.
