SATKHIRA, Aug 29, 2026 (BSS) - A two-year-old child named Abdur Rahman drowned in a pond beside his home in Talundia village of Jugikhali union under Kalaroa upazila of the district this afternoon.

The deceased, Abdur Rahman, 2, was the only child of Engineer Shahjahan Kabir of Talundia village. The child's father is currently living in Dhaka for his job.

According to former Union Parishad chairman Rabiul Islam and local residents said while playing Abdur Rahman fell into the pond beside their house unnoticed by family members.

When the family members could not find him, they searched for him extensively. At one point, local residents spotted the child in the pond beside the house and quickly rescued him. By then, however, the child had died.

The sudden death of the two-year-old child has cast a pall of grief over the family, relatives and locals.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalaroa Police Station Mizanur Rahman confirmed the incident.
