CUMILLA, Aug 23, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled Indian sarees, three-piece and other goods worth approximately Taka 92.9 lakh during separate raids in Cumilla.
Two vehicles allegedly used for smuggling were also seized.
Lieutenant Colonel Mir Ali Ejaz, commander of the Cumilla Battalion (BGB-10), disclosed the information at noon on Sunday.
According to BGB sources, special patrol teams conducted two separate operations as part of ongoing efforts to prevent smuggling and cross-border crime in the border areas under the battalion's jurisdiction.
At 4.10am, a special patrol team from Shiberbazar Border Outpost (BOP) conducted a raid in Chouara Bazar area of Chauddagram upazila, about six kilometres inside Bangladesh from the border.
In another operation around 4:30am, a special patrol team from Kotok Bazar post raided the Palpara area of Adarsha Sadar upazila, approximately five kilometres inside Bangladesh.
During the operations, BGB personnel searched vehicles found abandoned at the locations and recovered various types of Indian sarees, three-piece outfits and other goods.
The seized goods will be handed over to the customs authorities for further legal action in accordance with the relevant regulations, BGB said.
