KHULNA, August 12, 2026 (BSS) - Khulna Development Authority (KDA) Chairman Advocate SM Shafiqul Alam Mona has said the authority has taken an initiative to prepare a long-term plan for modern and environment-friendly urbanisation centring Dumuria in its new master plan, considering the area’s growing population.

The KDA organised the meeting to brief local residents about its services and the master plan for Dumuria.

He said residential, commercial and industrial areas as well as agricultural lands are being identified separately to ensure planned development while protecting cultivable land and water bodies.

The KDA also plans to construct internal connecting roads to make communication between Dumuria, known as the granary of Khulna, and the main city faster and easier, he said while speaking as the chief guest at a views exchange meeting with people from different walks of life at the Dumuria Upazila Parishad conference room today. 

The master plan also includes clear guidelines for preserving natural canals and developing a planned drainage network to address waterlogging in line with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s directives, Mona said.

“The Prime Minister is highly sincere about ensuring orderly development and commercial expansion in the Khulna region,” he said.

Mona said Khulna, situated along the Rupsha and Bhairab rivers, is expanding rapidly, while Dumuria has emerged as one of the important centres of this expansion due to its vast potential.

“We have come directly to Dumuria to discuss the overall master plan and civic services of the KDA to develop the upazila in a planned manner,” he said.

 “Our goal is to reduce public harassment and ensure transparency in providing services,” he added.

Dumuria Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sabita Sarker presided over the meeting. Former Dumuria upazila BNP convener and former repeatedly elected UP Chairman Molya Mosharraf Hossain Mofiz was present as a special guest.

KDA Chief Engineer (additional charge) Kazi Sabirul Alam, Dumuria Assistant Commissioner (Land) Amit Kumar Biswas, social workers Hafizur Rahman Moni and Hafizur Rahman Hafiz, Md Sarwar Hossain, Abdul Malek, UP Chairman Md Mahbubur Rahman, Khan Ismail Hossain, Mashiur Rahman Liton and KDA Planning Officer Md Tanvir Ahmed, among others, also attended.

During the open discussion, people from different professions and sections of Dumuria expressed their views and suggestions on the proposed development plans.
