KHULNA, Aug 12, 2026 (BSS) - A Jubo Dal activist was shot dead by unidentified assailants at an old brick kiln in Srirampur area of Rupsa upazila in Khulna early Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Fakhrul Sheikh, 32, son of Momin Uddin of Naihati village and younger brother of Jubo Dal leader Farhad Hossain.
The incident took place at around 12:55am at Rupsa Bricks, where Fakhrul had gone to look after the brick kiln and fish enclosure.
Locals said Fakhrul had an altercation with the kiln's night guard, Tayeb, earlier in the day. Tayeb reportedly did not attend his night duty following the altercation.
At around 12:55am, a group of armed men opened fire on Fakhrul near the office room of the brick kiln.
He sustained two bullet wounds-one to the neck and another entering his head through the area beneath the right jaw.
Hearing the gunshots, his brother Farhad and three others rushed to the spot and took Fakhrul to RupsaUpazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Khulna Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Farhad filed a murder case with Rupsa Police Station, but no one had been arrested until filing of this report.
Officer-in-Charge of Rupsa Police Station Abdur Razzak Mir said police visited the scene immediately after the incident and found two bullet injuries on the victim's body.
“Police operations are underway to arrest those involved in the killing,” he said.
Farhad said his younger brother was a former student leader of Rupsa College and was currently involved in Jubo Dal politics. He also worked at the family-owned brick kiln and was involved in fish farming.
The motive behind the killing could not be ascertained immediately.
