RANGPUR, Aug 9, 2026 (BSS) - Speakers at a programme have said that tree plantation is very important in maintaining environmental balance, increasing greening and combating the adverse effects of climate change.
They said this at the programme organized on Sunday to mark the inauguration of a tree planting on both sides of the road from Shahbaz Amtala to Mojir Gate in Balapara union of Kawnia upazila of the district.
Kawnia Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Papia Sultana inaugurated the programme by planting tree saplings on both sides of the road as part of the government's 250 million tree plantation programme in five years across the country.
Balapara Union Parishad Chairman Md Ansar Ali, Jamaat-e-Islami Balapara Union President Md Abdur Rahim, Upazila NCP Chief Coordinator Md Saidul Islam and Balapara Union NCP President Md Habibur Rahman addressed the event.
The speakers said that tree planting programmes are an effective way to increase greening and enhance public participation in protecting the environment from the adverse effects of climate change.
They said that planned tree planting and its maintenance must continue to adapt to the adverse effects of climate change, reduce the pressure of urbanization, and ensure a green environment for future generations.
In her speech, UNO Papia Sultana said that as part of the 250 million tree plantation program across the country in five years, tree plantation programs will be implemented in various upazilas in phases.
"In addition to planting trees, proper care and conservation of the planted saplings must be ensured," she said and called on all concerned to play a responsible role to make the tree plantation programme a success in the upazila.
Journalists from various electronic and print media and local dignitaries were present at the tree plantation programme.
