RAJSHAHI, Aug 8, 2026 (BSS) - Lifat Protibondhi Foundation Samabaya Samity has provided mosquito nets and tree saplings to 100 members of the Protibondhi Self-Reliant Organization in Rajshahi as part of its ongoing support for people with disabilities.

The foundation distributed the items at a tree plantation and mosquito net distribution programme held at the Nowdapara Chayanir residential area in the city on Saturday afternoon. It also provided advice on preventing dengue and measles.

Rajshahi city BNP President Mamun-or Rashid, who attended the programme as chief guest, planted saplings and distributed the mosquito nets.

He appreciated the initiative, saying support for people with disabilities should focus not only on immediate assistance but also on helping them become self-reliant. He urged affluent individuals and organizations to come forward to support people with disabilities.

The foundation's Chairman Riaz Shikder said he became involved in supporting people with disabilities after experiencing their struggles closely as the father of a child with a disability. 

He said the organization was formed to help improve their living conditions and create opportunities for self-reliance.

As part of its ongoing activities, the foundation has already distributed 2,000 mosquito nets across Rajshahi district. It plans to distribute 10,000 more tree saplings in the district in the future.

The foundation has also been providing financial and other support to help people with disabilities become economically independent. 

According to its officials, low-interest loans of Tk 30,000, Tk 50,000 and Tk 1 lakh have been provided for various income-generating activities, including cattle rearing.

The organization has also provided one-time medical assistance of Tk 1 lakh each to two people with disabilities in Rajshahi and helped arrange marriages for 15 people with disabilities.

Besides financial assistance, the foundation plans to continue providing food, medical care, housing support and employment assistance to improve the overall living conditions of people with disabilities and strengthen their social inclusion.

Speaking at the programme, visually impaired Shiuli expressed gratitude for receiving the mosquito net and tree sapling, saying the net would help protect her from mosquito-borne diseases.

Physically disabled Sharif said such support boosts the confidence of people with disabilities and reflects society's responsibility towards them.

Mominul Islam, president of the Protibondhi Self-Reliant Organization and the National Grassroots Disabled Organization, and Md Khairul Alam, former president of Parila Union BNP in Paba Upazila, attended the programme as special guests.
