RANGPUR, Aug 8, 2026 (BSS) - Train traffic on the Parbatipur-Burimari route returned to normalcy about an hour and a half after the engine and a bogie of Parbatipur-bound 461 commuter train derailed in Rangpur city on Saturday.
 
Witnesses and railway officials said that the accident occurred in the Babupara area of Rangpur city around 10:30 am. 
 
Although no passengers were injured, train services on that route were disrupted for about an hour and a half. 
 
Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Railway (BR) authorities have formed a four-member probe committee to investigate the cause of the accident. 
 
Rangpur Railway Station Superintendent Abdullah Al Mamun said after the 461 commuter train leaving Burimari reached the Babupara area near Rangpur rail station, some wheels of the engine fell off the track. 
 
At the same time, some wheels of a rear bogie also derailed.
 
Upon receiving the information, railway officials and employees went to the spot and started rescue work. 
 
Later, the derailed engine and bogie were separated and the train was shifted to another line. 
 
"Currently, there is no problem in train movement at Rangpur station," he said. 
 
Lalmonirhat Divisional Mechanical Engineer (Loco) of BR Dhiman Bhowmick told that a four-member probe committee headed by Assistant Transportation Officer-1 Farukul Islam Manik has been formed to investigate the cause of the accident.
