RAJSHAHI, July 30, 2026 (BSS)- Police arrested a couple in Rajshahi with 937 yaba tablets and recovered TK 19,000 in cash from drug peddling.
They were arrested in a joint operation by Baya Bazar police outpost of Airport Police Station and Shahmakhdum Police Station of Rajshahi late Wednesday night.
The two arrested are Alamin Islam, 32, of Bholabari village under Airport Police Station and his wife Sanjida Akhter Nishi, 28.
The information was revealed by Rajshahi Metropolitan Police spokesperson Deputy Police Commissioner Gaziur Rahman at a press briefing at Shahmakhdum Police Station in the city this afternoon.
He said that the Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police received secret information that the couple had been stockpiling drugs and selling them in various places. Based on this, the Police Commissioner ordered to conduct an operation and supervised the drive himself.
As per the instruction, a raid was conducted at around 2:45 am at the couple's rented house in the Shahid Zia Park area of Bhadalipara area of Shahmakhdum Police Station.
Later, 937 pieces of yaba tablets were recovered after a search. In addition, TK 19,000 in cash from drug sales and five mobile phones were also seized.
In the preliminary investigation, the police learned that the arrested couple had been running a drug business for long evading the eyes of law enforcement.
A previous drug case against Alamin Islam is also under trial.
The spokesperson said that a case has been filed against the two accused under the Narcotics Control Act at Shahmakhdum Police Station in this incident. Later, they were sent to jail after produced before he court .
