GAZIPUR, July 26, 2026 (BSS) - Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) has announced a proposed budget of Taka 5,102 crore 35 lakh and eight thousands for the 2026–27 fiscal year, prioritizing urban development, infrastructure expansion, safe water supply, environmental improvement, and enhanced civic services.

The budget was formally presented on Sunday at the Nagar Bhaban conference hall by GCC Administrator Md. Shawkat Hossain Sarkar. The event was chaired by Chief Executive Officer Tanjila Khanam. This is the 14th budget of the Gazipur City Corporation.

The proposed budget estimates total expenditure at Taka 2,480.48 crore.

According to the budget, the corporation expects an opening balance of Tk 2,437.26 crore. Revenue projections include Taka 443.37 crore from the general fund, Taka Tk 70.81 crore from the water supply fund, Taka 140 crore in government development grants and Taka 2,010.92 crore from foreign-assisted and Development Project Proposal (DPP)-based projects.

On the expenditure side, the budget allocates Taka Tk 417.70 crore for the general fund, Taka Tk 78.04 crore for water supply, Taka 139.75 crore for government-funded development activities, Taka Tk 236.25 crore for self-financed development projects and Taka 1,608.73 crore for foreign-assisted and DPP-based projects.

The budget projects a closing balance of Taka Tk 2,621.88 crore at the end of the fiscal year.

Officials, including the GCC Secretary, Chief Accounts Officer, regional executive officers, journalists, and representatives of civil society, attended the budget announcement ceremony.

The revised budget for FY 2025–26 estimates total revenue at Taka 3,463.07 crore and total expenditure at Taka 1,025.81 crore, with a closing balance of Taka Taka 2,437.26 crore.

In his budget speech, Administrator Shawkat Hossain Sarkar described Gazipur as one of the country's most prosperous and densely populated industrial cities, saying the proposed budget aims to deliver quality civic services and ensure sustainable infrastructure development.

He reaffirmed the corporation's commitment to transforming Gazipur into a modern, green, clean, and livable city.

Highlighting the budget's key priorities, he said emphasis has been placed on mosquito control, modernization of waste management, traffic congestion mitigation, drainage system improvements, construction of new roads and rehabilitation of existing ones, strengthening healthcare services, and expanding primary and technical education.

The budget also includes plans for constructing modern slaughterhouses, community centers, automated traffic management systems, and public toilets.

Calling for public cooperation, Sarkar said the active participation of citizens is essential to transform Gazipur into a model city. He reiterated that the city corporation would continue to ensure transparency and accountability in delivering public services.
