JHENAIDAH, July 20, 2026 (BSS) - A construction worker died after being electrocuted while demolishing an old building in Kotchandpur upazila of the district on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Yanur Hossain, a resident of Helai village in Kaliganj upazila of the district.

The accident occurred around 11.00 am while Yanur and several other workers were demolishing an old building at Kotchandpur Government Girls' Secondary School.

According to police and local residents, a metal rod being handled by Yanur accidentally came into contact with a nearby high-voltage power line during the demolition work.

Local people rescued him and rushed him to Kotchandpur Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty physician declared him dead.

Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Kotchandpur Police Station Ansarul Haque Islam confirmed the matter.
