KHULNA, July 19, 2026 (BSS) – The Khulna District Development Coordination Committee, at its monthly meeting today, directed the authorities concerned to complete all ongoing development projects within the stipulated timeframe and ensure that the official websites of government offices are updated regularly.

The meeting, held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner, was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Hoore Jannat.

The Deputy Commissioner also instructed the authorities to complete the construction of model mosques in different upazilas. 

Expressing concern over recent fire incidents in hospitals, she called for stronger fire prevention measures and directed the authorities to keep hospitals and surrounding areas smoke-free.

She suggested providing vocational training under the Department of Youth Development and the Department of Women's Affairs to help them become self-reliant.

Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Shawkat Ali informed the meeting that, as of July 15, a total of 1,200 suspected measles patients had been admitted to hospitals in the district, while 44 cases were confirmed positive. Currently, 42 patients with measles symptoms are undergoing treatment. The disease has claimed 13 lives so far.

Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension Md. Nazrul Islam said farmer cards would be distributed among cultivators in the district.

Of the district's 3,26,561 farming families, 15,669 households from nine blocks in nine upazilas will receive the cards in the initial phase.

District Fisheries Officer Md. Badiuzzaman said 720 kilograms of chemically treated export-quality shrimp were destroyed during 13 anti-adulteration drives last month, while Tk 23,000 was realised in fines.

He added that seven drives and four mobile courts conducted under the Fish Conservation Act seized and destroyed 78,500 metres of illegal current nets, two behundi nets, one Chinese door net and three illegal net barriers. 

Authorities also released 1.05 lakh fish fry into open waters and collected Tk 3,000 in fines.

District Livestock Officer Dr. Md. Shariful Islam said the department earned Tk 19 lakh in revenue this month from vaccine sales, farm registration fees and artificial insemination services. Total revenue collection in the 2025-26 fiscal year stood at Tk 1.07 crore.

Assistant Director of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department in Khulna Md. Walid Bin Habib said 12 market monitoring drives were conducted last month, during which 20 business establishments were fined a total of Tk 1.94 lakh.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Bitan Kumar Mondal, upazila executive officers, officials from various government departments and members of the committee attended the meeting.
