KHULNA, July 18, 2026 (BSS) – Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested the prime accused in the sensational murder case of 16-year-old Arfana Hossain Nirjana from Dumuria Bazar area in Khulna district,  a RAB-6 press release said.

The arrestee, Md. Alim Hossain Akash, 40, who is also the victim's father, was apprehended on Saturday noon in a joint operation conducted by RAB-6 Special Company and Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Sadar Police Station.

According to the case statement and police sources, Nirjana was allegedly killed on the night of July 8.

Her body was later stuffed into a plastic sack and dumped in the Prantika Residential Area under Khulna Sadar Police Station.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Khulna Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.

Following the incident, Sub-Inspector Lovely Akter of Khulna Sadar Police Station filed a murder case against unidentified persons.
Investigators later found that the teenager was allegedly murdered by her father, Alim Hossain Akash, and her mother, Arifa Yasmin Seema, following a family dispute, police said.

Seema was arrested earlier and gave a confessional statement before a court, while Akash had been absconding since the incident.

After his arrest, Akash was handed over to Khulna Metropolitan Police's Sadar Police Station for further legal proceedings, RAB release added.
