RANGPUR, July 12, 2026 (BSS) - Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) Administrator Advocate Mahfuz Un Nabi Don has said that they are working tirelessly to make Rangpur city an environment friendly, modern, clean and well-managed city.

"We have adopted a zero tolerance policy to ensure the quality of all infrastructural development works. Strict monitoring will be done to ensure that the work is completed within the stipulated time and with 100 percent quality,” he said.

Don, also Rangpur Metropolitan BNP Member-secretary, said this after inaugurating renovation work of the important road from Jahaz Company Intersection to Mahiganj Satmatha Intersection as the chief guest at a function on Sunday afternoon.

The nearly four-kilometer-long road has been in a dilapidated condition and filled with large potholes for the past few years, causing immense sufferings to the citizens.

The city residents have protested several times demanding the renovation of the road during the tenure of the previous governments.

At one stage of the protest, a symbolic funeral was held by declaring the road dead.

Soon after assuming his office around four months ago, newly appointed RpCC Administrator Advocate Mahfuz Un Nabi Don promised to renovate the road and took initiatives on priority basis to mitigate sufferings of city dwellers.

Don said that the renovation works will be implemented at an estimated cost of over Taka 20.67 crore under the Local Government Covid 19 Response and Recovery Project to develop the city's infrastructure and restore civic amenities.

The renovation includes carpeting, Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) road, RCC drain, sidewalk tiles, road dividers, road separators, light poles, and installation of smart LED street lights.

“If this important road is equipped with drainage systems and modern LED lights, the long-standing sufferings of the people of this area will be resolved,” he said and sought full cooperation of the city residents in the city’s development.

Meanwhile, the city residents have expressed satisfaction with the inauguration of the renovation work on one of the city's busiest roads from Jahaz Company Intersection to Mahiganj Satmatha Intersection.

Talking to BSS, College student Mohaimenul Islam said, “Once the road is renovated, there will be less traffic congestion. Like me, I believe that the city residents will be able to travel without any problems.”

City residents Rafiul Islam, Abul Hossain and Tofazzal Hossain, called on the RpCC authorities to ensure that the contractor does the work properly maintaining the quality and delivers on time.

RpCC Superintending Engineer Md Azam Ali, Executive Engineer Md Shamsuzzaman, BNP leader and former councilor Malek Niaz Arju, Rangpur Metropolitan Jubo Dal Member-secretary Atiqul Islam Lenin, Senior Joint Convener Jahir Alam Nayan, Joint Convener Wahid Murad, Metropolitan Swechchasebak Dal Convener Md Imran Hossain, Member-secretary Nur Hasan Sumon and RpCC officials were preset at the function.
