KHULNA, July 11, 2026 (BSS) – Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) has claimed to have solved the mystery of the sensational murder of 18-year-old Arfana Hossain Nirjana within 36 hours, alleging that she was killed by her parents following prolonged family disputes over her relationships and marriage.

At a press briefing held at KMP headquarters this morning, Police Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Hasan said the investigation led to the arrest of Nirjana's mother,Arifa Yasmin Seema who gave a confessional statement before a magistrate.

According to the police commissioner, Seema admitted during the  interrogation that persistent family conflict over Nirjana's romantic relationships with several young men had escalated tensions at home, and ultimately led to the killing.

Police said that on the day of the incident, an argument broke out between Nirjana and her family in the afternoon.

During the altercation, her mother slapped her several times. Hearing the commotion, her father, Alim Hossain Akash, entered the room and attempted to stop the dispute. 

When Nirjana allegedly continued arguing with   Akash, and at a stage he  struck her on the head with a wooden object  causing fatal injuries.

After the killing, the parents allegedly placed the body in a plastic sack, wrapped it with a torn lungi, and transported it on a motorcycle before dumping it on a secluded road in the Prantika Residential Area of Nirala in Khulna city.

Police said the mother also disclosed that the family had been upset because Nirjana had married a young man from Azogara village in TerokhadaUpazila against their wishes.

On the morning of the incident, she had left home intending to go to her husband's house but was persuaded by family members to return. The fatal incident occurred later that afternoon.

Police recovered Nirjana's body from the roadside on the night of July 8. The investigation officer, SI Lovely Paul, reported deep injuries on both sides of the victim's head and black marks around her neck.

A murder case was filed with Khulna Sadar Police Station on July 10. On Friday, ArifaY asmin Seema gave a confessional statement before Metropolitan Magistrate Ibrahim Khalil Muhim and was subsequently sent to jail.

Investigators said Nirjana's father, AlimHossain Akash has been absconding since the incident, and efforts are continuing to arrest him.

Police said that before her arrest, Seema had identified her daughter's body at the morgue of Khulna Medical College Hospital after learning about the recovery through social media.

At that time, she claimed that Nirjana had left behind a note stating, "Do not look for me."

However, investigators said the authenticity of the alleged letter has not yet been verified.

Police also noted that despite remaining absconding, Akash has been posting misleading information on Facebook.

He allegedly shared the purported letter in an attempt to suggest that his daughter had left home voluntarily. On the night Nirjana's body was recovered, a post from his Facebook account read, "Surely Allah has a plan. Alhamdulillah through every pain and sorrow."

Investigators found that Akash was active on social media as a TikTok content creator and regularly uploaded videos featuring his wife and daughter to YouTube.

Although he described himself online as a computer engineer and businessman, police said they have not yet verified his occupation.

Police Commissioner Zahidu lHasan said preliminary findings also suggest that Akash is a drug addict. Law enforcement agencies are conducting raids at various locations to apprehend him.

The incident has sparked widespread public outrage and disbelief in Khulna, with many questioning how parents could allegedly kill their only child. The case has generated intense discussion across social media and among local residents.
