Khulna BNP forms disaster management committee, health cell for flood victims

KHULNA, July 10, 2026 (BSS) - Khulna City BNP has formed a Disaster Management Committee and a special Health Cell to provide emergency assistance to people affected by prolonged heavy rainfall and severe waterlogging across the city.

The party announced the initiatives in a press release issued on Friday, saying they are aimed at coordinating relief operations and ensuring immediate support for residents affected by flooding.

Khulna City BNP General Secretary and BCB Director Shafiqul Alam Tuhin has been made convener of the Disaster Management Committee. The committee includes senior metropolitan BNP leaders as well as representatives of the party's associate and affiliated organisations.

According to the release, committee members will monitor affected areas round the clock, assess damage, coordinate with local party leaders and activists, and carry out emergency rescue and relief activities. Ward-level leaders have also been instructed to remain active and extend maximum assistance to flood-hit residents.

The party has also launched a special Health Cell to respond to possible outbreaks of waterborne diseases and other health emergencies. Residents requiring emergency medical assistance have been asked to contact the Health Cell through the mobile numbers 01715001955 and 01711017476.

An emergency meeting of the Disaster Management Committee has been scheduled for 12 pm on July 11 at the Khulna Metropolitan BNP office on KD Ghosh Road.
In a separate statement, Chief Whip Rokibul Islam Bakul, MP, urged BNP leaders and activists, social organisations and affluent members of society to stand beside flood-affected people with humanitarian assistance.

He said continuous rainfall had inundated large parts of Khulna city, leaving thousands of residents, including day labourers, women and children, in hardship. Many families were struggling without food, safe drinking water and other basic necessities, he added.

Bakul called on BNP leaders and activists at the metropolitan, ward and union levels to actively participate in providing shelter, food, medical care and rescue assistance, expressing hope that coordinated relief efforts would help affected people recover from the crisis quickly.
