RANGPUR, July 9, 2026 (BSS) - In the face of ongoing climate change, planting 
more trees has become essential to protect and improve the environment, so as 
to leave a livable world for future generations.
 
The opinion came at a post-rally discussion held at the Deputy Commissioner's 
conference room in the city on Thursday.
 
The district administration and Department of Environment (DoE) jointly 
arranged the discussion, colorful rally, drawing competition and prize 
distribution to mark the World Environment Day- 2026.
 
Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam attended the function as 
the chief guest with Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ruhul Amin in the chair.
 
Rangpur Range DIG of Bangladesh Police Aminul Islam, Rangpur Superintendent 
of Police (SP) Mohammad Mozammel Haque and Rangpur Divisional Director of the 
Department of Environment Nur Alam delivered speeches as special guests. 
 
Associate Professor of the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences 
of Begum Rokeya University Md Mostafizur Rahman presented the main article 
narrating the present status of the environment at the national and global 
levels. 
 
In the speech, the chief guest said that in addition to planting more trees, 
proper and sustainable use of limited natural resources must be ensured so 
that a habitable world can be left for future generations. 
 
He said trees and forests play an important role in maintaining the balance 
of the environment. 

"For this, everyone should be aware of protecting the environment and plant 
more trees," he added. 
 
The industrialization and excess greenhouse gas emissions in developed 
countries are relatively more responsible for environmental pollution. 
 
As a result, the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is increasing, 
and the adverse effects of climate change are gradually increasing worldwide. 
 
Regarding the closure of illegal brick kilns, he said that this is a serious 
threat to the environment and agriculture. 
 
The productive capacity of the fertile land is decreasing due to the removal 
of fertile soil on the surface of agricultural land for brick production. 
 
"For this, the administration should conduct regular campaigns against 
illegal brick kilns and take appropriate measures," he said. 
 
The speakers said it is essential to reduce environmental pollution, which is 
a growing threat to lives, livelihoods and ecosystems, by renouncing the use 
of plastic and polythene and planting more trees. 
 
Indiscriminate deforestation, environmental pollution, and the use of 
polythene and fossil fuels in industry are causing environmental pollution 
and are making the habitable world uninhabitable day by day. 
 
Therefore, they have suggested increased use of green energy and the use of 
eco-friendly jute products instead of plastic to protect the environment. 

Later, the chief guest distributed prizes to the winners of different 
competitions arranged for children and students in observance of the day.
