RANGPUR, July 09, 2026 (BSS) – Speakers here today stressed the need for raising mass awareness to build a social movement in preventing violence against women and children and eradicate child marriage from the society.
They expressed the view at a seminar on “Preventing violence against women and children and child marriage” at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in the city.
Organized by the district administration and the Office of the Deputy Director of the Department of Women's Affairs, the seminar was attended by officials from administration, education officers and private sector organisations.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Ruhul Amin attended the event as the chief guest.
Rangpur Civil Surgeon Dr Shaheen Sultana, Deputy Director of the Department of Social Services Aniruddha Kumar Roy, Deputy Director of the Department of Women's Affairs Seloara Begum spoke as special guests at the seminar.
Participating in an open discussion session, the speakers explained the reasons behind the social curses that have been plaguing the society, especially the poor and backward communities, for decades and have created unrest in family and social life.
They called upon all concerned, including government and private sector officials, marriage registrars, teachers and guardians, to set an example of not arranging child marriages through collective efforts and to free the society from these curses.
The chief guest emphasized on creating awareness and requested the guardians, public representatives, marriage registrars and the administration to prevent violence against women and children and eradicate child marriage from the society.
He emphasized on the collective efforts of all stakeholders to free the society from these social curses by starting a strong movement and awakening a new consciousness from all parts of the society.
