DHAKA, July 5, 2026 (BSS) - Central Police Hospital has achieved a historic milestone by successfully performing its first-ever Percutaneous Coronary
Intervention (PCI), commonly known as coronary angioplasty, at its newly established catheterization (Cath) laboratory.
The landmark procedure marks a significant achievement for the hospital since its establishment in 1954, according to a police press release.
The angioplasty was successfully carried out on a member of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Traffic Division under the leadership of Professor Dr. Abdul Wadud Chowdhury, Director of the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases and Hospital (NICVD), with the support of specialist cardiologists from the Central Police Hospital.
The patient is currently under close observation in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU), and his condition is reported to be stable.
The introduction of coronary angioplasty services at the Central Police Hospital, Dhaka opens a new chapter in cardiac care for the Bangladesh Police.
Police personnel and their family members will now have quicker and easier access to modern, international-standard heart treatment and emergency cardiac intervention services.
