66,395 children in Rajshahi city to receive Vitamin A capsules

RAJSHAHI, June 23, 2026 (BSS)- Under the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign on June 28, a total of 66,395 children, including 9,113 children aged 6-11 months and 57,282 children aged 12-59 months  in Rajshahi city will be fed Vitamin A capsules.

The information was shared today at an orientation and planning meeting organized by Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) at its Nagar Bhaban’s conference Hall.

Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, Administrator of RCC, was present as the chief guest. The National Vitamin A Plus Campaign will be held across the country on June 28. 

The meeting discussed and devised ways and means on how to ensure the smooth and successful implementation of the National Campaign in Rajshahi City.  

In his speech as chief guest, the RCC Administrator said initiatives have been taken to successfully implement the government program of administering Vitamin A to reduce the risk of child mortality. 

He urged everyone to perform their duties sincerely for the smooth completion of the Vitamin A Plus Campaign. 

At the orientation meeting, Dr. FAM Anjuman Ara Begum, Chief Health Officer of RCC, presented the overall information on the National Vitamin A Campaign. 

The meeting was informed that on June 28, under RCC management, capsules will be administered from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM at 384 centers across 30 wards.
 
In addition, during the campaign, capsules will be administered until 8:00 PM at ward offices. 

The campaign aims to administer Vitamin A capsules to a total of 66,395 children, including 9,113 children aged 6-11 months and 57,282 children aged 12-59 months. 

Through the National Vitamin A Plus Campaign, all children aged 6-11 months will be given one blue Vitamin A capsule, and all children aged 12-59 months will be given one red Vitamin A capsule.
To implement the campaign smoothly and successfully, a total of 768 volunteers—2 per center—will be deployed at the 384 centers. 

This program will be implemented in Rajshahi City with implementation by the National Nutrition Services, Institute of Public Health Nutrition, Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and overall cooperation from Rajshahi City Corporation. 

The meeting was presided over by Md. Rezaul Karim, Chief Executive Officer of RCC. 

Special guests included Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman; Prof. Dr. Shahida Yasmin, Head of the Pediatrics Department at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital; Kasturi Amina Queen, Director of Family Planning; and Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Anwarul Islam.
