RANGPUR, Sept 8, 2026 (BSS) - International Day of Clean Air for blue skies 2026 was observed in Rangpur today with a call for integrated climate and clean air actions to ensure a healthy environment and sustainable economic growth.

Development of Poor Society (DOPS), an NGO, organised a youth dialogue at its Beacon Theater Center office in the city marking the day with the slogan, "Ensure energy transformation, build a future of clean air."

DOPS CEO Ujjal Chakraborty chaired the programme. Principal Fakhrul Anan Benju, environmental activists, youth representatives and volunteers attended the dialogue.

The speakers said air pollution is a major threat to human health and the environment, while also aggravating climate change and causing economic losses. They stressed stronger investment, partnerships and collective action to reduce pollution.

Ujjal Chakraborty said Rangpur has huge potential for renewable energy, which can be tapped through proper planning. He suggested community-based solar and biogas projects in char areas and improved cooking stoves to reduce household fuel wastage and air pollution.

He called for reducing dependence on fossil fuels and promoting affordable, environment-friendly and locally produced renewable energy.
