KHULNA, June 14, 2026 (BSS) - Administrator of Khulna City Corporation (KCC)
Nazrul Islam Manju said awareness messages must reach every household and
stressed the importance of public participation in dengue prevention efforts.
He made the remarks as the chief guest in a discussion meeting on the dengue
situation and prevention activities held at Shaheed Altaf Auditorium of
Khulna City Corporation (KCC) on Sunday.
The city authorities are working to implement the directives of Prime
Minister Tarique Rahman regarding dengue prevention through engagement with
people from different sections of society, he said.
"Many children died from dengue last year. The number may increase this year
unless adequate preventive measures are taken. We are therefore making
necessary preparations in advance," he added.
Referring to waste management, he said KCC is following the model of Rajshahi
city in managing waste in key urban areas.
Manju added that the city corporation is considering purchasing plastic and
polythene waste from residents if necessary.
He also emphasized the need for cleaning drains, canals, ditches, and
waterlogged areas to prevent mosquito breeding and warned that negligence in
carrying out assigned responsibilities would invite legal action.
KCC Chief Executive Officer Rajib Ahmed presided over the meeting.
Among others, KCC Secretary Md Reza Rashid, Chief Engineer Mashiwuzzaman
Khan, Chief Revenue Officer Rahima Sultana Bushra, Chief Health Officer Dr
Sharif Shammiul Islam, Chief Waste Management Officer Anisur Rahman, District
Education Officer SM Sayedur Rahman, and District Primary Education Officer
Sheikh Ahidul Alam spoke at the event.
KCC Veterinary Officer Dr Peru Gopal Biswas presented a concept paper on
dengue while participants shared their opinions and recommendations on dengue
prevention and control measures.
