KHULNA, June 8, 2026 (BSS) - Rear Admiral Arif Ahmed Mostafa officially assumed office on Monday as the chairman of Mongla Port Authority (MPA).
He succeeds former chairman Shaheen Rahman.
The formal handover ceremony took place through the transfer of responsibilities from Acting Chairman Commodore Md. Shafiqul Islam Sarkar.
Before joining MPA, Rear Admiral Arif Ahmed Mostafa served as chairman of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA).
Following his appointment, he held an exchange meeting at the authority’s conference room with members of the port authority, departmental heads, officers of Grade 9 and above, representatives of the Officers’ Association, and members of the ad hoc committee of the CBA.
During the meeting, the acting chairman briefed the newly appointed chairman on the port’s ongoing projects, unfinished initiatives, and future work plans.
After reviewing the overall situation, Rear Admiral Mostafa outlined his vision and strategic directions for the continued development of the port.
He instructed all officers and employees to perform their duties with professionalism, integrity, and adherence to ethical and religious values while working collectively as a team.
He emphasized that reducing administrative complexities would facilitate smoother execution of the port’s operational activities.
The new chairman also stressed the importance of increasing port revenue and reducing expenditure, urging officials to give these matters due attention.
Furthermore, he expressed the need for an early consultation meeting with port users and stakeholders to support the overall development of the port.
Throughout his distinguished naval career, Rear Admiral Mostafa has additionally commanded patrol craft BNS Farid, BNS Teesta, BNS Meghna, LPC BNS Durjoy, OPV BNS Shaheed Ruhul Amin, and the naval base BNS Haji Mohshin.
