CHATTOGRAM, May 23, 2026 (BSS)- Fisheries Department in a special drive seized 2300 meters of illegal fishing net from Halda River, country’s lone natural fish breeding ground.
The predawn raid on Saturday covered the area from Nayahat to Goanmordon in the Haladar estuary of the Nazirhat Halda River in Hathazari upazila.
Md. Shoukat Ali, the Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer of Hathazari said 12 fishing rods were also seized during the drive.
The confiscated nets have been deposited to a temporary naval police camp and will be destroyed later.
Shoukat Ali said the fisheries department emphasized the importance of continuous monitoring and operations to safeguard the natural breeding grounds of carp fish which also supports dolphins and a diverse range of aquatic life.
