SIRAJGANJ, May 23, 2026 (BSS) – The International Day to End Obstetric Fistula 2026 was observed in Ullapara upazila of the district today with a rally, discussion meeting and leaflet distribution campaign.
The programmes were organised by the Department of Health and the Department of Family Planning with technical support from UNFPA Bangladesh and Centre for Injury Prevention and Research, Bangladesh (CIPRB).
Civil Surgeon Dr Nurul Amin inaugurated the programme at Ullapara Upazila Health Complex.
Speaking at the discussion, health officials highlighted the importance of awareness, proper diagnosis and treatment to eliminate obstetric fistula.
The campaign was held under the global theme “Act Now to End Fistula by 2030”.
Officials said a 20-day special campaign was conducted across Sirajganj district from May 2 to May 20, during which over 11 lakh people were reached with awareness messages.
During the campaign, 21 suspected fistula patients were identified. Of them, two were diagnosed at the Fistula Corner of Sadar Hospital and one was confirmed positive.
