Proper hide preservation, fair cattle trade stressed ahead of Eid-ul-Azha

RAJSHAHI, May 23, 2026 (BSS) – Advocate Shafiqul Haque Milon, MP, today said proper preservation and fair trade of sacrificial animal hides during Eid-ul-Azha can play an important role in protecting the interests of orphans, the poor and underprivileged people.

He made the remarks while addressing the monthly law-and-order committee meeting at the Paba Upazila Parishad conference room as chief guest.

The lawmaker said the leather industry is the country’s second-largest foreign-exchange earning sector after garments, while a major portion of hides is collected during Eid-ul-Azha.

He urged all concerned to remain alert so that hides are properly preserved with salt and no hide goes to waste.

Referring to cattle markets, MP Milon stressed the need to ensure fair prices for livestock sellers and called for a broker-free and disciplined market environment.

Chairing the meeting, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ibnul Abedin said the administration has taken necessary steps to maintain order at cattle markets and raise awareness about proper hide preservation ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

Among others, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mohammad Mehedi Hasan, Agriculture Officer M.A. Mannan, former Horgrom Union Parishad Chairman Abul Kalam Azad and local BNP leaders also spoke at the meeting.
