RAJSHAHI, May 22, 2026 (BSS) - Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has undertaken a series of people-friendly and exceptional initiatives to ensure smooth celebration of Eid-ul-Azha and maintain cleanliness in the city after Qurbani, drawing widespread appreciation from residents.
As part of the preparations, RCC is distributing free plastic-free, eco-friendly bags and bleaching powder among families across the city to ensure hygienic preservation of Qurbani meat and proper waste management.
RCC workers have also taken to the field to assist traffic police in easing traffic congestion. City residents are happy with the various people-friendly, exceptional initiatives of RCC Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton.
According to RCC sources, each of the 82,000 households in the metropolis is receiving three eco-friendly bags for preserving sacrificial meat hygienically.
Families sacrificing cows or buffaloes are also being provided with two large eco-friendly bags and one kilogram of bleaching powder, while those sacrificing goats or sheep are receiving one large eco-friendly bag and 500 grams of bleaching powder.
RCC Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton formally inaugurated the distribution programme on May 21.
In another initiative, around 60,000 kilograms of salt are being distributed among madrashas and orphanages in Rajshahi to help preserve sacrificial hides.
To ease traffic congestion ahead of Eid, RCC workers have joined the field to assist traffic police in managing vehicular movement in different parts of the city.
Eid congregations will be held under RCC management at six Eidgahs in the city, including the Hazrat Shah Makhdum Ruposh (RA) Central Eidgah.
The city corporation has also completed extensive preparations for rapid removal of Qurbani waste to ensure a clean and hygienic environment after Eid.
As part of awareness-building efforts, RCC is distributing leaflets door-to-door and disseminating messages through imams of mosques across the city.
To ensure smooth implementation of the waste management programme, the RCC Administrator has already held meetings with officers and employees of the conservancy department, ward secretaries, supervisors, inspectors and other concerned officials, issuing necessary directives.
City residents expressed satisfaction over the initiatives.
Resident Farhad Hossain described the programme as timely and commendable, saying the distribution of eco-friendly bags and bleaching powder would help preserve meat properly and maintain cleanliness in the city.
Sharmin Akhter said the initiatives would greatly benefit ordinary people during Eid, adding that the eco-friendly bags would make meat preservation easier while bleaching powder would help prevent foul odour and germs.
School teacher Sohel Rana said providing every family with eco-friendly bags, bleaching powder and salt for hide preservation reflected a welfare-oriented approach and also carried an important message about keeping the city clean.
RCC Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton said the city corporation was working tirelessly to ensure uninterrupted civic services in line with the directives of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
He said the biodegradable eco-friendly bags would naturally decompose within a few days and all preparations had been completed to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha smoothly.
Riton also said all arrangements had been made to remove Qurbani waste within 10 to 12 hours after Eid prayers.
"With the cooperation of city residents, we hope to ensure a clean Rajshahi city the day after Eid," he added.
