SHERPUR, Feb 25, 2026 (BSS) - Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB)
arrested a man and seized a large quantity of drugs during separate drives
along the Sherpur-Mymensingh border in the early morning of today.
According to the BGB, special raids were conducted in different bordering areas
under Sherpur and Mymensingh districts. During the operations, BGB personnel
recovered Indian painkiller Tapentadol tablets, sandalwood, alcohol and
several mobile phones from Gomra Rubber Garden in Jhenaigati upazila,
Panihata Shal Bagan in Nalitabari upazila and Shimulkuchi area of Haluaghat
upazila.
During the drive, BGB members detained Md. Lal Chan, 23, a resident of Gomra
village in Jhenaigati upazila.
BGB officials said a case has been filed with Jhenaigati Police Station
against four other suspects who remain absconding.
The estimated market value of the seized items is approximately Taka 9.10
lakh.
Lieutenant Colonel Md. Nurul Azim Bayezid, commanding officer of Mymensingh
Battalion (39 BGB), said border security has been further strengthened and
regular patrols and anti-smuggling operations will continue to curb illegal
trafficking activities in the area.
