BHOLA, Jan 13, 2026 (BSS) - River Police rescued four fishermen who were abducted by pirates while fishing in the Meghna River under Borhanuddin Police Station in Bhola district.
Officers and forces of Mirzakalu Naval Police Outpost under the Barisal Region conducted a special operation and rescued the kidnapped fishermen from the naval area adjacent to Tulatali Ghat today, according to a press release.
Based on information received from local residents, In-charge of Mirzakalu Naval Police Outpost, Police Inspector (Retd.) Sanatan Chandra Sarkar, immediately informed higher authorities. Under the overall supervision of SM Nazmul Haque, Superintendent of Police, Barisal Region, River Police, an expeditionary team was formed.
The operation was led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Md. Imran Hossain Mollah and resulted in the successful rescue of all four victims.
The rescued fishermen have been identified as Md. Mohiuddin Matabbar (40), Md. Sabuj (22), Md. Bajlu Majhi (38), and Md. Sharif (30).
All of them are residents of different areas under Borhanuddin Police Station in Bhola district.
Police stated that a group of pirates abducted the fishermen while they were fishing in the Meghna River in Pakshia Union, Ward No. 8 on January 11 morning and later demanded ransom from their families.
After the rescue, the fishermen were provided with necessary first aid.
Police officials confirmed that further legal proceedings against the kidnappers are currently underway.
