NARAYANGANJ, Jan 11, 2026 (BSS) – At least eight workers were burnt following a boiler explosion at Akij Cement Factory here last night.

The victims have been identified as Engineer Tareque, 26; Mechanic M Khorshed, 35; Mechanic Ferdous, 35; Operator M Monjur, 28; Operator Habib, 43; Operator M Rakibul, 25; and Driver M Hannan, 46.

The explosion occurred inside the factory’s boiler room, leaving eight people injured and damaging several rooms of the factory, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Narayanganj Bandar Police Station Golam Moktar Ashraf Uddin.

On receiving the news, firefighters rushed to the scene, said Assistant Director M Abdullah Al Arefin of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence.

The injured were rushed to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.

The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation.
