MADARIPUR, Jan 4, 2026 (BSS) - An NGO worker was killed when a private car hit his motorcycle on the Dhaka-Barishal highway in Rajoir upazila of the district on Sunday morning amid dense fog.

The victim was identified as Sumon Sardar, 31, son of Mohammad Tajul Islam of Tulasar village in Shariatpur sadar upazila. He was working as a field organizer at the Rajoir branch of Shariatpur Development Society, an NGO.

The accident occurred around 8:00 am in the Samaddar area when a speeding car hit a motorcycle, leaving its rider Sumon injured critically. 

He was rescued and taken to the Rajoir Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Rajoir Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Md. Aminul Islam confirmed the incident and said that legal proceedings are underway in this regard.
