41 road accident victims receive Tk 1.65cr compensation in Noakhali

NOAKHALI, Jan 10, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Noakhali Circle today distributed cheques worth Taka 1.65 crore as compensation among 41 families affected by road accidents in Noakhali and Lakshmipur districts.

The cheques were handed over at a programme held in the conference room of the Noakhali Deputy Commissioner's office in the afternoon.

BRTA Chairman Abu Momtaz Saad Uddin Ahmed attended the event as chief guest and formally handed over the cheques to the victim families.

According to BRTA sources, 21 families in Noakhali district-including families of 20 deceased persons and one injured victim-received Taka 1.01 crore. In Lakshmipur district, 20 families-including families of 11 deceased and nine injured victims-received Taka 64 lakh. 

Speaking at the event, the BRTA chairman reiterated a strict stance on road safety, saying motorcycle riders must follow traffic laws and unlicensed vehicles would not be allowed on the roads. 

He said that precious lives are being lost every day due to reckless driving and lack of public awareness, stressing that both drivers and passengers must act responsibly to ensure road discipline and safety.

Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Shafiqul Islam presided over the programme, while BRTA Director Rubaiyat-e-Ashiq was present as special guest. Additional District Magistrate Taslimun Nesa moderated it.
