MAGURA, January 4, 2026 (BSS): The Department of National Consumer Rights Protection has fined Syed Khairuzzaman, owner of Messrs General Gas House in Magura, Tk 100,000 for selling LPG gas at higher prices than the government-fixed rate.

The drive was conducted around 12:30 pm on Sunday at the General Gas House warehouse located in the Doarpara area of the town.

During the operation, authorities found evidence of excessive stockpiling of gas and sales at prices higher than the government-determined rate. In addition, the warehouse lacked adequate fire safety measures, and the owner failed to produce documents specifying the permitted quantity of gas storage as per the license. As a result, the fine was imposed under the Consumer Rights Protection Act.

According to sources from the Department of National Consumer Rights Protection, the government-fixed price of a 12-kg LPG cylinder is Tk 1,253, but the establishment was selling each cylinder at Tk 80 more than the fixed price.

Assistant Director of the Magura District Office of the Department, Sajal Ahmed, said,  All businesses have been instructed to sell gas at the government-fixed price. The government has not increased gas prices yet, but this establishment in Magura was selling gas at an inflated price.

He added,  Such drives will continue regularly to protect consumer rights.

Members of the law enforcement agencies were also present during the operation.
