KHULNA, Jan 2, 2026 (BSS)- Special prayers were held at mosques in Khulna city today seeking eternal peace for the departed soul of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia.

Following Jumma prayers, BNP Khulna City Unit organised a doa mahfil at the city’s historic Khulna Town Mosque.

During the prayers, special munajat was offered prayers for Begum Khaleda Zia to grant her place in Jannatul Ferdous. They also prayed for the members of the bereaved family.

An emotional atmosphere prevailed across the mosque premises as worshippers offered prayers solemnly for their beloved leader.

Prior to the prayers, president of BNP Khulna Metropolitan chapter Advocate Shafiqul Alam Mona, in a brief address said the outpouring of love, respect and emotion from people following the passing of Begum Khaleda Zia is unprecedented in Bangladesh’s political history.
 
“This love will further unite and strengthen the Bangladesh Nationalist Party,” he added.

BNP Khulna City General Secretary Shafiqul Alam Tuhin said Begum Khaleda Zia never compromised on principles, national independence or sovereignty. 

BNP Khulna Metropolitan Organising Secretaries Masud Parvez Babu, Molla Farid Ahmed, Nasir Uddin, Abdul Rashid, Ashraful Islam Noor, Ashraful Alam Nannu, Sajib Talukder, Ishtiaq Ahmed Isti, Kazi Jalil, Rakibul Islam Mati, Advocate Mashiur Rahman Nannu, Nazmus Sakib, and leaders of BNP’s metropolitan, affiliated and associate bodies attended the prayers.

Similar special prayers were held after Jumma prayers at mosques in all five police station areas and 34 wards of Khulna Metropolitan City, where worshippers and people from all walks of life participated spontaneously seeking eternal peace for the departed leader.
