CHATTOGRAM, Dec 20, 2025 (BSS)- Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Dr. Shahadat Hossain has said the water logging in the city’s Katalgonj residential area and its vicinity will be solved permanently once the ongoing excavation and eviction works of Hizrah canal is completed.
Talking to journalists during a visit to the site today the mayor said city’s water logging problem has seen significant progress this year following implementing massive development work in a coordinated manner.
Chief Conservancy Officer of CCC Captain Ikhtiyar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Executive Engineer of Chattogram Development Authority Eng. Ahmed Moinuddin and local BNP leader Md Kamrul Islam were present.
Mayor Shahdat said re-excavation, eviction and expansion work of the Hizrah canal at Mehedibagh, Panchalish, Katalgonj and Chawkabazar points are going on in full swing under the supervision of Army’s 34 Engineering Brigade.
Mayor said real width of the canal was 30 feet but narrowed to 12-15 feet at some area due to illegal encroachment.
He called upon the city dwellers to cooperate with the authorities for successful completion of the work.
