RAJSHAHI, Dec 19, 2025 (BSS) - Rajshahi Hi-Tech Park is witnessing a renewed surge in investment, raising fresh hopes for the region's technology sector as both local and international companies move in after a prolonged lull.

Several commercial establishments, including American tech giant Starlink, Agni System, Brac IT and PRAN-RFL Group, have begun operations or initiated investment processes at the park, bringing fresh momentum to its economy.

During the initial phase, the park's commercial plots remained largely idle. However, the situation has changed in recent months as all eight long-vacant commercial plots have now been leased sequentially.

Starlink has already taken a one-acre plot on a 40-year lease and installed a modern ground station. Local company Agni System has been allocated another plot, while Brac IT has started operations on two acres of space.

Other firms, including PRAN-RFL, are in the process of securing 2,400 square feet of space in the 12-storey Silicon Tower, further energising activities at the park.

According to Jewel Kibria, Deputy Director of Rajshahi Hi-Tech Park, eight additional plots in front of the Silicon Tower have been reserved for large-scale companies, indicating continued expansion.

He expressed optimism that substantial operational activities would begin within the next couple of months.

Since starting operations last year, the park has drawn the attention of several renowned international companies. Starlink has officially launched its satellite-based high-speed internet services in Bangladesh, with Rajshahi playing a key role.

Under an agreement with the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority, Starlink has leased one acre of land for 40 years and completed construction of its ground station. The company will pay two US dollars per square metre annually, along with a service charge.

Bangladeshi firm Bondstine Technology Limited (BTL) is managing Starlink's infrastructure development and operations. BTL Managing Director and CEO Meer Shahrukh Islam said the Rajshahi ground station will function as a central hub to deliver high-speed internet services across the country.

In addition to Rajshahi, Starlink has established ground stations at Kaliakoir and Jessore Hi-Tech Parks to support nationwide network coverage. Islam said 10 antennas have already been installed at the Rajshahi site, with 30 more to be set up soon. He also revealed plans to establish a robotics and Internet of Things (IoT) research centre at the park.

Officials expect the Rajshahi Hi-Tech Park to generate around 3,000 new jobs within the next six months as investment continues to grow.

Located along the banks of the Padma River, the park is emerging as a centre of opportunity for local youth, encouraging technology-based careers and entrepreneurship.

The 12-storey Silicon Tower, the park's main structure, spans 84,661 square feet. Of this, 58,416 square feet have been allocated to 16 companies, while allocation of another 24,637 square feet is nearing completion. The remaining 9,576 square feet are currently under review.

Major Bangladeshi firms Chaldal and PRAN-RFL Group have signed leases for 12,612 square feet each on the 10th and 9th floors of the Silicon Tower.

Both companies plan to set up IT and customer service centres. PRAN-RFL also intends to introduce training and business process outsourcing services, while Chaldal plans to recruit professionals in graphic design, technical support and hardware services.

Developed at a cost of Tk 335 crore on 31 acres of land beside the Rajshahi Court area, the park was formally handed over to the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority on June 30, 2024.

At present, 19 companies occupy 18 blocks in the Silicon Tower, with 11 already operational and others preparing to launch. In addition, seven software firms are operating from the park's IT Training and Incubation Center.

Industry leaders and park officials remain confident that Rajshahi is steadily positioning itself as a growing regional hub for technology and innovation.
