GOPALGANJ, Dec 18, 2025 (BSS) - Police arrested four leaders of Awami League (AL) in Tungipara upazila of the district during a “Devil Hunt Phase-2” drive conducted on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

Police arrested them from Patgati Bazar, Kushli and Sriramkandi areas of the upazila.

Those arrested are Tungipara Upazila Awami League health affairs secretary Abhijit Kumar Saha, 45, Municipal Awami League member Jahangir Alam alias Jane Alam Sheikh, 48, Kushli Union Awami League science and technology affairs secretary Shafiqul Islam Omar, 45, and Awami League leader Alam Sheikh, 50.

Tungipara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ayub Ali said all four were produced before the court and sent to jail on Thursday afternoon.

Jahangir Alam and Shafiqul Islam Omar were sent to jail in connection with a case filed over an attack on police and vandalism of a vehicle in front of Baghiarghat School and College on February 2.

The other two accused, Abhijit Kumar Saha and Alam Sheikh, were jailed in a separate case related to blocking roads and creating public panic by burning tyres in Tungipara on July 16, centring on an NCP rally.

Police said the drive would continue as part of ongoing law enforcement operations in the area.
