SUNAMGANJ, Dec 17, 2025 (BSS)- Construction and repair of embankments worth
Taka 10.3 billion have begun in Sunamganj to protect Boro crops in 137 haor
area.
Under the program, construction and renovation of 590 kilometers of
embankments are being implemented to safeguard crops. The work started
earlier this week.
A district committee meeting on Haor embankment repair and maintenance, in
line with the Kabita (cash-for-work) policy, was held at the district
administrator's conference room this afternoon to mark the commencement of
the work.
Speaking at the meeting, Executive Engineer Mamun Hawladar said repair and
maintenance work of crop protection embankments started on December 15 in
haor areas of all 12 upazilas of the district.
He said that in the 2025-2026 fiscal year, embankment repair and maintenance
works in 137 haors would be implemented at a cost of Tk 10.3 billion under
the Kabita policy.
"Under projects of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB),
construction and renovation of 590 kilometres of embankments to protect Boro
crops are being carried out through 510 Project Implementation Committees
(PICs)," he said.
Sunamganj Deputy Commissioner Dr Mohammad Elias Miah chaired the meeting.
Executive Engineer of the BWDB Mamun Hawladar, Additional Deputy Commissioner
(Revenue) Ayesha Akter and Sunamganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sultana
Jarin spoke at the meeting among others.
