SUNAMGANJ, Dec 15, 2025 (BSS) - A mobile court led by the Department of Environment (DoE) and the Sadar Upazila Administration conducted a drive against illegal brick kilns in Sadar upazila on Monday afternoon.
The operation was headed by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Aditya Pal. During the drive, action was taken against a brick kiln for violating various provisions of the Brick Manufacturing and Kiln Establishment (Control) Act, 2013 (amended in 2019) and the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act, 1995 (amended in 2010).
A fine of Taka 1,00,000 was imposed on R.B. Bricks at Buristhal in the upazila. Following the verdict, brick production activities at the kiln were completely shut down. The Fire Service extinguished the kiln fire, while raw bricks were destroyed using an excavator.
Saiful Islam, Inspector of the Department of Environment, conducted the prosecution. Members of the Fire Service and Civil Defense along with personnel from Sunamganj Sadar Police Station, provided overall assistance during the operation.
Assistant Director of the Department of Environment Md. Mohaiminul Haque said such drives against illegal brick kilns would continue as part of ongoing efforts to control air pollution in the district.
