GAIBANDHA, Dec 06, 2025 (BSS) - Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Gaibandha Mohammad Masudur Rahman Mollah has stressed ensuring essential facilities for char residents to accelerate development in the district's backward areas.
He made the remarks while addressing a function as chief guest at Char Kunderpara under Kamarjani Union of Sadar Upazila on Thursday.
"Being isolated from the mainland, char dwellers are deprived of fundamental rights such as healthcare and education," the DC said. "It is therefore our foremost duty to bring them into the mainstream of development, just like the people living in the mainland."
He added that non-government organizations can also play an important role alongside government initiatives in extending these services to marginalized communities.
The district administration organised the event to help char residents connect with upazila-level government and non-government service providers.
The DC urged all concerned officials to show greater sincerity in advancing the overall development of char communities.
ADC-General Jadob Sarker, Sadar UNO Mahmud Al-Hasan, upazila-level government officials, and representatives from non-government organizations including Gana Unnayan Kendra and Friendship attended the function and reaffirmed their commitment to delivering services properly to char residents.
