RAJSHAHI, Nov 30, 2025 (BSS) – Newly joined Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Dr. Zillur Rahman has said that initiatives will be taken on a priority basis to ensure overall security in the city.
He said that like other major cities, Rajshahi is facing multiple challenges, and quick steps will be taken to improve traffic management, control narcotics trafficking, and reactivate close-circuit television systems to address these issues.
Dr. Zillur Rahman made the remarks while exchanging views with journalists on the occasion of his joining as RMP Commissioner at his office conference hall this noon.
He sought full cooperation from journalists to combat all types of crimes, especially drug abuse, trafficking, and illegal trading.
He said that integrated efforts of police and media personnel are essential to build a crime-free society, which is crucial to supporting the government’s efforts to move the country forward.
Commissioner Rahman also urged journalists to provide constructive criticism, saying that it would help in self-rectification and promote professionalism among police personnel.
He added that efforts will be made to infuse dynamism into activities related to traffic management, narcotics control, and CCTV surveillance to tackle crimes more effectively.
During the meeting, various issues were discussed elaborately—including drug trafficking, social crimes, terrorism, extortion, beat and community policing, traffic congestion, juvenile crimes, and police-journalist relations—with a focus on devising ways to address them efficiently.
