BARISHAL, Nov 30, 2025 (BSS) – The graduation parade of the 4th batch of cadets of Bangladesh Marine Academy, Barisal, was held today.
The programme began with a parade at the academy premises at 11 am.
Shipping Secretary Dr. Nurunnahar Chowdhury addressed the ceremony as the chief guest and handed over awards to the meritorious cadets.
In her speech, Dr. Chowdhury said the government is working to make the maritime profession more popular and to modernize the training system.
“Five marine academies are playing a crucial role in meeting the growing demand for skilled marine professionals in the international market,” she said.
She added that Bangladeshi mariners are earning a substantial amount of foreign exchange by working on ships in different countries, which is directly contributing to the country's economic progress.
Commandant of the Bangladesh Marine Academy, Barisal, Captain SM Atiqur Rahman, presided over the event. Barisal University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Toufique Alam, Range DIG Manjur Morshed Alam, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md. Shafiqul Islam, senior officials of the Ministry of Shipping and Department of Shipping, other military and civilian officials, and guardians were also present.
This year, a total of 61 cadets – 30 from the Nautical Department and 31 from the Marine Engineering Department – successfully completed their training under the Pre-C course.
