NARAYANGANJ, Nov 22, 2025 (BSS) - At least six workers were burned in a boiler explosion at the Bashundhara Cement Factory in the Bandar area of the district this evening.
The injured workers were rescued and taken to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute for treatment.
The explosion occurred around 7 pm at the factory located in Madanganj under Bandar Police Station, said Abdullah Al Arefin, Deputy Assistant Director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defense.
The injured workers are Nahid Hasan, 22, of Feni, Kamal Hossain, 45, of Pabna, Taijul Islam, 35, of Noakhali, Ferdous, 35, of Jamalpur, Torab Ali, 55, of Kushtia, and Atiqur Rahman, 42, of Narayanganj.
According to doctors, Nahid sustained 40% burns, Kamal 26%, Taijul 12%, Ferdous 10%, Torab 16% and Atiqur 27%.
"All six victims have burn injuries, and their dressings are currently underway," said Dr. Shaon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the Burn Institute.
Fire service official Arefin said hot coal spilled inside the boiler room and fell on several workers, causing the burns. "The factory authorities did not inform us immediately because the incident involved coal spillage," he added.
Arefin said details would be available after firefighters visit the site and conduct an investigation.
