CHATTOGRAM, Nov 17, 2025 (BSS) - A bumper Aman rice harvest is expected this season across all 15 upazilas of Chattogram district, as farmers achieve high yields from short and medium-duration varieties.
Md. Omar Faruk, Additional Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) in Chattogram, told BSS today that about 14 percent of Aman rice has been harvested so far.
Farmers have harvested short and medium-duration varieties on 12 percent of the total cultivated area, achieving an average yield of 3.1 tonnes of clean rice per hectare, equivalent to 4.11 tonnes of dry paddy.
"With long-duration Aman paddy harvesting scheduled to start at the end of this month, the yield is expected to rise further, surpassing the set production target," he said.
Omar Faruk added that crop damage from floods, pests, and other issues has been minimal this year.
The interim government, through the DAE, had targeted producing 530,436 tonnes of clean Aman rice (795,654 tonnes of paddy) from 179,809 hectares in the district. Farmers, however, have cultivated Aman rice on 179,987 hectares, exceeding the target by 0.12 percent.
Field visits by officials showed that rice plants benefited from ample sunlight and regular rainfall, contributing to a strong yield.
After harvesting, farmers are now preparing the same land for early potatoes, winter vegetables, and other Rabi crops, generating widespread farm activity.
Farmer Shamsul Alam from Banskhali upazila mentioned that they have cultivated various types of Aman rice on seven and eight acres of land this season.
"As we continue to harvest the crop with excellent yield rates, we are anticipating high yields ranging between 42 and 56 mounds (each mound is equivalent to 40 kg) per acre of land this time," Shamsul Alam said.
Farmers in different upazilas of the district, including Md Jaber from Ratanour village in Patiya, Nur Alam from Chandhanish, and Moinuddin from Satkhania, are reporting excellent yields from their Aman rice harvest.
