GAZIPUR, Nov 6, 2025 (BSS) - An eviction drive was carried out today at
Joydebpur Rail Crossing in Gazipur city to clear illegal establishments and
restore smooth movement for commuters.
The operation was jointly conducted by Gazipur City Corporation, district
administration, Gazipur Metropolitan Police, and the Bangladesh Railway
Authority.
During the drive, over a hundred unauthorized makeshift shops and structures,
including hawkers' stalls, were demolished.
The eviction campaign was led by Gazipur City Corporation Regional Executive
Officer Feroz Al Mamun, Executive Magistrate Faria Tasnim, Joydebpur Railway
Station Master Mahmudul Hasan, and Railway Security Officer Imran Hasan.
Officials from the metropolitan police, traffic division, and various city
departments were also present.
Gazipur City Corporation's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Md. Sahil Hasan
described the effort as a "new beginning".
"Joydebpur rail crossing is the heart of Gazipur. Long-standing illegal
occupation has caused chaos and public suffering. Today's eviction marks the
start of coordinated urban recovery, where the administration, city
corporation, railway, and citizens work together," he added.
He further said that the city corporation has already launched the 'Joydebpur
Mobility Improvement Project', aimed at modernization through flyover
construction, alternative road expansion, traffic signal automation and
footpath reconstruction.
"We are determined to build Gazipur as a clean, smart, and occupation-free
city," he added.
Gazipur City Corporation Administrator Saraf Uddin Ahmed said, "Urban
development in Gazipur is an urgent need. Ensuring pedestrian and traffic
movement by keeping roads and footpaths free from encroachment remains our
top priority."
Regional Executive Officer Feroz Al Mamun added that the corporation is
conducting regular drives to maintain a clean and accessible city.
Executive Magistrate Faria Tasnim also confirmed that such eviction drives
would continue routinely. "There will be zero tolerance for illegal
encroachment," she warned.
