BAGERHAT, Nov 2, 2025 (BSS) - The Forest Department arrested seven poachers
while they were attempting to hunt deer in the deep forest areas of the
Sundarbans using a trawler hoisted with the Forest Department flag for
disguise.
The arrests were made from the forest area near the Hondal point under the
Kokilmoni patrol post in the Sharankhola range of the Sundarbans on Saturday
night.
The arrestees were identified as Manoj Pal, Mojibur Rahman, Ali Hossain,
Musak Ali Molla, Mozammel Sheikh, Khan Tamim and Mallik Ahid. One of them is
from Mongla upazila, while the remaining six are residents of Rampal upazila.
Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, East Divisional Forest Officer of the Sundarbans,
said the poachers were detained during a drive conducted around 1 am on
Saturday.
"They used the Forest Department flag on their trawler to avoid suspicion,"
he said.
During the operation, the forest officials seized 100 deer-hunting traps, two
trawlers, a Forest Department flag, 20 meters of Sujil net, a saw, 20
containers, four cooking desks, two cookers, three tarpaulins and two drums
from the spot.
A case was filed against the detainees under the Forest Act, and they were
sent to jail through the court on Sunday afternoon, the forest officer added.
