CHANDPUR, Nov 2, 2025 (BSS) - The Department of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has fined seven businessmen, including four hotel owners, a total of Taka 55,000 in Hajiganj upazila of the district for various consumer rights violations.
The fines were imposed during a joint operation conducted at Hajiganj Bazar on Sunday afternoon by the Chandpur District Office of DNCRP along with law enforcement agencies.
Abdullah Al Imran, Assistant Director of the DNCRP, said the inspection team found expired products, rotten food stored in refrigerators, and unhygienic cooking environments at several establishments.
Among the fined businesses, Star Hotel and Suites was fined Taka 20,000 for storing expired and rotten food and preparing meals in an unhygienic environment.
Gauchia Highway Restaurant, Nargis Food, and Rajmahal Hotel were each fined Taka 5,000 for preparing food in dirty and unhygienic conditions.
Additionally, VIP Diagnostic Center was fined Taka 5,000 for failing to display a service price list, Welcome Super Shop was fined Taka 5,000 for lacking expiration dates on products, and Bandhu Pharmacy was fined Taka 10,000 for storing expired medicines intended for sale.
All the accused business owners pledged not to repeat such violations in the future. The DNCRP team also distributed leaflets and pamphlets to raise public awareness about consumer rights and encourage compliance with the law.
Assistant Director Imran said that such operations will continue regularly in the public interest, with the support of joint forces.
