FARIDPUR, Oct 30, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced four people to life imprisonment and two others to five years in prison for a gang rape and murder that took place in Char Krishnapur village under Sadarpur upazila in 2012.

The life term convicts are Jahangir Bepari, Kamrul Mridha, Ali Bepari and Bakkar Bepari. The court also fined them Taka 1.5 lakh each on the charge of rape and murder.

Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Shamima Parveen delivered the verdict at noon in the presence of three of the convicts, except Jahangir Bepari, a court official said.

Meanwhile, the court sentenced two others, Momtaz Begum and Abul Kalam Byapari, to five years of rigorous imprisonment each for destroying evidence related to the case.

They were also fined Taka 20,000, in default, to suffer six months in prison.

According to prosecution, on the night of October 1, 2012, the four accused entered the house of a housewife, where they raped and murdered her. 

Following the incident, the victim's mother, Jelekha Begum lodged a case with Sadarpur Police Station.
