Ctg port chairman to sit with stakeholders soon to discuss tariff: Amir Humayun

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 29, 2025 (BSS) - Amir Humayun Mahmud Chowdhury, former President of Chattogram Chamber, said that the Chairman of Chattogram Port has agreed to meet with port users, affected individuals, and stakeholders within the next 10-15 days to reach consensus on realistic tariff. 

“We hope that it would be possible to take decision on a reasonable and realistic tariff for port users . . . which will be acceptable to all parties involved,” he added.  

Amir Humayun shared the information while speaking as the chief guest at a view-sharing meeting held at the City Convention Hall on Agrabad Access Road in the city today.

Chattogram Port Users Forum organized the view-sharing meeting with the aim of holding the weighing scale, port traffic, and Chattogram Chamber accountable and making them more business-friendly to facilitate the commercial growth of Chattogram. 

Amir Humayun Mahmud Chowdhury said that during the initial meeting of the Chattogram Port Users Forum, an ultimatum was given. Following this, the port chairman took the initiative to write to the ministry and successfully arranged for the suspension of increased tariffs in four sectors: trucks, prime movers, trailers, and gate fees, he added.  

He mentioned that strike by C&F for four hours led to the withdrawal of the ultimatum to avoid any harm to the Chattogram Port. Additionally, communication was established with the Chief Advisor through a written letter, and a party was appointed to discuss with the forum members on the issues. 

Amir Humuyon shared that he had a conversation with the port chairman yesterday said he is pleased to announce that the port chairman has agreed to meet with port users, affected individuals, and stakeholders within the next 10-15 days. 

During this meeting, they will discuss and determine a logical and acceptable tariff, Humuyon said, mentioning that he will ask all associations to provide information on sectors where port tariffs have increased as the goal is to negotiate with the government for fair and realistic tariffs. 

BGMEA Director MA Salam emphasized the need for dynamic leadership in the Chattogram Chamber. A panel from the United Business Forum, representing various sectors, discussed the issue of increased tariffs at Chattogram Port.

Nasiruddin Chowdhury moderated the function while Shipping Agents Association Director Shahed Sarwar, former Barvida President Habibullah Don, C&F Agents Association President Saiful Alam, businessman Shawkat Ali Chowdhury, BGMEA First Vice President Shahidullah Chowdhury,  its Adviser Latifur Rahman Azim, Terry Bazar Traders Association Adviser Belayet Hossain and President Abdul Mannan, among others, attended the event.
