Rotten Hilsa seized, owner fined Tk 1 lakh in Chandpur

CHANDPUR, Oct 29, 2025 (BSS) - Consumer rights activists have seized more than 300 kilograms of rotten Hilsa brought from Monpura in Bhola for sale at the Chandpur Fisheries Center and fined Taka one lakh to the owner. 

The National Consumer Rights Protection Department and joint forces conducted the operation on Wednesday afternoon and seized the rotten hilsa fish and fined Helal Majhi (Monpura, Bhola) Taka 1 lakh for selling the rotten fish [Hilsa], said Abdullah Al Imran, assistant director at the District Office of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department.

The accused promised to refrain from committing such irregularities again. During this time, the spoiled and rotten Hilsa fish (approximately 330-350 kg) were destroyed by pouring kerosene and burying it in the ground. 

President of Chandpur Fisheries Merchants Cooperative Association Abdul Bari Jamadar Manik and other fish traders, representative of the District Fisheries Department Farhana Akhtar Ruma and a team of joint forces provided overall support in the operation. 

Such operations will continue in the public interest, Abdullah Al Imran added.
